|Joy through her life never lived up to her cheerful name. Always a spiteful, angry chick that snapped easily at anything that came near her, she was soon abandoned by her parents in a forest from all the frustrations and stress that came with raising her. If anything the giant Vullaby knew she would die in the wild, and in resignation, had decided to climb the highest tree and fall from it. As she began to crawl up the dirty bark a man had caught sight of her, and in no less than half an hour the vulture found herself caught in a Pokeball and being taken home.
Turns out, the bird was caught by a man from a rich family, and wanted to give his daughter, Isabelle, a birthday present. Joy was, at first, disgusted at the thought of becoming a human's pet, but the young girl was soon able to break through her hateful demeanor and for the first time in her life the Vullaby was happy. As Isa's first and only Pokemon, she was entitled to a luxurious life, but also an artistic one. The human loved to make crafts and eventually, the vulture was tutored in the art of bone-crafting, leather work, and engraving. All done with the prey she caught and her trusty talons.
It wasn't long before Isabelle had to say good-bye, however. The girl had a disease which developed dementia in her brain, and wishing for her darling bird to go out and see the world instead of watching her suffer, Joy was given away to Isa's lover, Elliot, an aspiring musician. The relationship between the two was chaotic, the Vullaby taking an immediate dislike to him and often attempting to peck the poor man's eyes out. He was a coward, and the bird definitely didn't like that.
Although anxious and frail, Elliot proved to be a strong fighter. It was only in a few months that Joy evolved, training every minute she was awake. Soon the Mandibuzz began to sweep floors with trainers and gym leaders, immensely intimidating with her whopping 2.4m height. Often she would balance herself on Elliot's shoulders and spread her wings to full length, looming over whoever dare threaten either of them. She was, no doubt, a powerhouse. However her trainer wasn't a very big fan of battling and after defeating the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn leagues, decided to retire from battle. It took all his strength to refrain Joy from tearing him to pieces, but eventually she had gave in.
As a retired fighter Joy spent her next years as a crafter and hunter, leaving Elliot's home early to kill weak prey and gather carcasses. The man never liked death, blood, or anything remotely morbid, and was disturbed by what his partner did. He quietly tolerated it, however, and sometimes even mustered enough courage to help clean up any stains left in the house. However, everything went horribly wrong when the Epidemic reached their small settlement in Orre.
When first confronted by the living dead, drooling and snapping their jaws at him, Elliot was too frightened to move. Frozen on the spot Joy swooped down and grabbed him, flying away from their home and to wherever her heart lead them. Soon they arrived at Gateon Port, where they made a small shelter and resided for the next days. The duo debated on going overseas to another region, but this argument ended with the Mandibuzz leaving a deep wound on the human's shoulder, who sat defeated in their temporary home. Joy was reluctant to leave Orre, for reasons undetermined, and together with her trainer stayed there.
It wasn't long before Elliot died, though. It was midnight during heavy rainfall, he was playing a lullaby on his violin to drown out the patter of water. The music lured the undead however, and hen Joy awoke she noticed her trainer's body looming over her, crying. As his body slowly fell to the ground it revealed a puddle of blood, deep gashes across his back, and three undead canines staring straight at the duo. The Mandibuzz immediately took action, lifting the man and flying away as quickly as possible, but soon had to stop to rest. During her long flight, Elliot has already passed, and in a fit of rage, she slammed her talons onto his chest and screeched at him to wake up. Joy began to cry, shaking and sobbing before crippling to the ground, mourning her loss.
Soon she set off to travel again, towards an island she saw in the distance.
|To call Joy a giant is an understatement. At a whopping 2.4m height with an amazing wingspan he is a behemoth, and a well-kept one at that. The Mandibuzz likes to keep her feathers top notch, preening them whenever she needs to. Under her shimmering feathers lie a mass of muscles, a lean figure trained for endurance and strength. [Its no wonder how she flies around with all he bones--she's built for heavy lifting!] Her eyes are a dull red, often partially hidden by her talon-crafted skull he wears. The feathers on her head are longer than others, kept together in an oriental style with rib bones. Leather straps are wrapped around he vulture's feet, simply for aesthetics. The skull too is bound with leather to her neck, so she can pull it up and down like a hood.
|Joy is almost the exact opposite of her name. Spiteful, mean, and downright evil sometimes, the Mandibuzz likes to make it clear that she is not to be messed with. With sharp wits and intelligence, she acts quick, and dislikes wasting her time. This vulture tends to be quiet, however, perching on the highest place available while watching over others with calculating eyes. She holds higher respect for those who use their brain, and tends to be terribly intolerant of idiots. Although she has a rough exterior, inside she is a more shy individual, and has a great fondness for music, especially classical. Joy has a great love for crafts, more than she likes battling.

|As a Rufflet, Rhett was fairly content. Born to bird breeders he was nurtured and grown to trust humans, hand-fed since his hatching with a breeder band slid onto his foot. As much as it was peaceful and happy, the young bird found it awfully uneventful and boring. It was only a matter of days before the bird would begin to brew up trouble, knocking over expensive vases and screeching through the night to at least spice things up. Although his attempts failed countless times, the young eaglet had found great fun in running away from his breeders, playing a game of tag as they tried to catch and scold him for what he did.
As weeks and months slowly passed by all his siblings were sold, but Rhett found himself unwanted. His breeders told all of his potential owners of the mischief he could get into, which had caused them all to lose interest and go away. As much a his breeders felt bad about it, they no longer had the room to care for any other birds and decided that the Rufflet was to be either put down or kicked onto the streets if he didn't find a home soon. As soon as the eaglet realized his fate, he had done all he could to prevent either from happening.
In the short period of only four days Rhett was improving, his personality much more calm and serene and always patiently waiting on his perch for feeding time. The breeder were astonished, and soon the Rufflet was bought by a young man named Elliot. There, he had met a Vullaby near his age, named Joy. The bird duo didn't get along very well, constantly bickering and squawking at each other. Even Elliot had noted that they act like a old, married couple. The constant arguing and bitching hadn't ceased even after their evolution, training hard to try and be better than the other.
Although strong, Rhett was rarely used for any of the gym battles. It was always Joy who was singlehandedly beating up any Pokemon that dared challenge her. Instead, the Braviary was tasked with more household chores like taking the garbage out, throwing away the rotting carcasses his Vulture counterpart brought in, and occasionally even going grocery shopping by taking Elliot's credit card with him. It wasn't the best life, honestly, but it gave him something to do and that enough made him content.
After Joy retired from fighting it was finally Rhett's time to shine, fighting against random challengers that came to their little settlement in Orre. Otherwise peaceful, the little family had been happy. At least, until the epidemic came. Elliot was much too attached to release his Pokemon, and kept his party. It was only when they were attacked that the Braviary and his trainer were separated, Joy taking the human far away, grasped in her talons, leaving the Eagle to fend off the hoards on his own.
It has been months since their separation now, nervous due to the fact he didn't know whether Elliot was alive or dead, and enraged that Joy had left him behind. The Braviary flew around the coasts of Orre, in attempt to find both of them.
|A normal Braviary, save for his larger size and pretty blue eyes. He also has a golden closed metal band around his left foot.
|Despite his age, Rhett is easily comparable to a small child. Immature and clumsy, he often finds himself in sticky situations and being told off by others. The Braviary has a hard time getting serious, and always tries to make things happier by making light of a harsh situation.
Joy has already been approved, just tagging Rhett along. c:
