| Personality | -SUNSHINE INCARNATE David is a very optimistic man with a bright outlook on life. Despite so many things that should have dragged him down, he strives to face the day with a smile and an upbeat attitude. -Despite the way he acts, he is aware of how bad things are. He doesn't do this out of unawareness of how the world was and is. He doesn't deny that things are especially awful now that things have gone to shit. -He just doesn't want to fall into despair or drag others down with him Despair is a dark road, and he doesn't want to go down that path especially when he has someone who needs him. And besides, they're still alive right? -Determined as hell His ability to survive can also be attributed to the fact that he rarely gives up. There's always tomorrow to look forward to. -Creative He is very good at finding strange ways through problems. Also good at bullshitting when he has no idea what the hell he's doing at the moment. -Wants to make other people happy A large reason he remains positive is because he wants others to be happy as well. If there's anything he can do to make another person's day brighter, he'll probably go for it. Even though this probably annoys a lot of people. -Gullible It is sadly easy to pull shit over on him. If he has any amount of trust in a person, and that isn't hard to obtain, he will probably believe most of what they will tell him. This is tempered by his Pokemon and sometimes Max pointing out when things aren't adding up. He is more guarded nowadays when he can't afford to believe that everyone is inherently good. -Smarter than he lets on Some might mistake his optimism for stupidity, but that's not what's going on. There's a difference between choosing to be optimistic in the face of despair and being optimistic because you don't know better. He knows a lot about how to survive in the wild without modern conveniences, and he was a school teacher during a large portion of the year. -Desperately wants affection Due to neglect from his parents, and most adults, he has always just wanted someone to actually care about him. Campbell gave him scraps of affection, and he latched onto that like a lifeline and even changed from a sarcastic little brat to something closer to what he is today. -Never completely lost his sarcasm He generally keeps this down to a minimum but SOMETIMES. JUST. SOMETIMES. -Finite patience He does have a limit on his patience and does get frustrated when things go wrong. He does, however, contain himself from swearing and flying off the handle over minor things. -Emotional and not really afraid to show it or he can't hide it While smiling is his default, it's not hard to tell when he's faking a smile because everything else in his body langauge gives away his real feelings. He's generally open with his emotions and doesn't go out of his way to hide it -Deeply cares about others He genuinely wants to help other people, especially children. Especially when they're sad or upset. Part of what helps him keep his temper tempered is the knowledge that some people who act out are usually hiding pain. | Affiliations | -Campbell- David really looks up to this man even though he is somewhat aware that Campbell is the living embodiment of that one picture of a bird with the caption "I would sell you to Satan for one corn chip." He keeps hoping for better despite not having confimation thanks to the man giving him positive attention when he was younger. -Max Garcia- David saw a lot of himself in Max. He understood that deep anger at an unfair world and wanted to give Max the same kind of experience that David had when he was younger. After two summers of enduring hell from the kid, the third one was originally shaping up to be a repeat. Then David finally snapped and made it clear to Max that no, he wasn't stupid about how the world worked and that he chose to be this way despite it. As the summer went, Max slowly started to open up, and David could see marked improvements in his behavior. He didn't stop being a troublemaker, but his meanness from before started to fade. Despite knowing that Max had a cruddy home life, David couldn't do anything to help the kid more than give him his number once the summer ended. -Gwen- Fellow coworker from the year before the outbreak. Even if she was mostly only there for a paycheck, they grew to be fairly good friends. He doesn't know if she's alive or dead, and as much as he hopes she is alive, he tries to not think on it often. Or his guilt for not being even nicer. -Jasper- Friend from his childhood years. He originally didn't want anything to do with Jasper when the perky boy tried to encourage David to have fun at the camp he clearly had no interest in being at, but over time, he came to befriend the persistent boy. Thinks he ruined the friendship when they got in an argument, and then never saw Jasper again. Last he heard, Jasper left the camp immediately after the fight and didn't even want to say bye. | User Notes | -As of right now, this mostly follows his development up to season three except for two big exceptions. Campbell hasn't been outed as a con artist, and instead of getting arrested in Parent's Day (aka season 2 finale), he just suffered massive embarrassment from David dipping out to make Max feel better. The other involves the Cult Camp episode being handled in a way appropriate for a comedy, but in a way that... can't really be taken seriously. So things are gonna be a little tweaked. There will be other tweaks where appropriate. I'm also removing large parts where rule of funny made it where this character had to be very... stupid or unobservant only because it was funny. -Also, Jasper isn't dead because we aren't involving actual ghosts. What happened with him will be shown on Jasper's profile. This doesn't actually alter David's story since he didn't know Jasper died in the canon they're from, so we're running with a different plotline with him. -In case his quote didn't give it away, this show is very much not intended for younger audiences, so uh, please be aware of that. This references the one and only time he swears on the show, but uh, not everyone contains themselves as well as he does. -This is an older profile I had saved, so it def needs some more tweaking beyond adding the history.
