| History | In a quiet hamlet few had heard of on the outskirts of Hoenn, Ed and his psuedo-brother Alphonse were raised lovingly by a human woman. This woman treated them as if they were her own, and they lived happily for quite a long time. Two orphans, Ed and his brother Al had unknowingly met each other in a ditch, the small vulpix and aron then picked up by their owner during a terrible storm. But despite their tragic beginnings, their human caretaker made everything better. Life was good, and they were content. Of course, all good things must end. Unbeknownst to them, their "mother" had a terrible disease, an illness she'd hidden from the world. They tried desperately to seek help for her within their small hamlet, but no pokemon or human had the power to heal her. There were rumors of a skill of herbs, chemicals and psychic power, fusing all three skills together in something called "alchemy". But as the two hurriedly tried to learn the trade, their mother only got sicker and sicker, until she finally passed. Set in his resolution, Ed was determined that this terrible loss was not permanent. Along with his brother, they would find a way to bring her back. With the power of Alchemy, he knew there was a way to achieve their goal. They just had to find it, learn it and use it. Eventually, the boys became apprentices to a master of Alchemy, a mienshao that trained them brutally. She taught them more than mere parlor tricks, of ways to manipulate the world around them with their psychic attacks. Their minds and bodies grew stronger and stronger, and their knowledge of their trade expanded to what seemed to them unfathomable reaches. Once their training was complete, they headed back home, determined in their goal. They had everything they needed. The elements, the chemicals, the required plants and everything else that comprised the ingredients list. They then took their load and tried bringing back what they'd lost-- only to have the entire thing explode. The ingredients had been correct, but the way they'd tried manipulating everything had been terribly wrong. In a split second, the expirament proved to be a near fatal brush with death; Ed lost his right foreleg and back hindleg, and the lairon he'd known as his brother went missing completely. The sound had attracted a neighbor, who quickly mended Ed's wounds and forged for him artificial limbs. The explosion also attracted the attention of another; a rapidash from the local militia. As Ed faded in and out of consciousness, he heard the casual invitation to the militia's headquarters, and held onto those words even as the blackness took him. Once better, Ed set out once more, chasing Mustang back to the HQ. Though he wasn't all that interested in serving man and country, he knew that there wasn't much of a better opportunity to find his brother, who was still missing. He was tested and, to the surprise of all, enlisted shortly after. His skills were beyond belief for one so young, and once he was enlisted, he was evolved into a ninetales. With newfound power, unlimited access to new knowledge, he set out on his search, coming across information on a Johto Legend; one that could revive the dead and heal the wounded. Ho-Oh. With the goal of reviving his mother set aside, he settled on finding his brother and returning his body back to normal with this Ho-Oh's help. Though many turned their nose down at him for such a notion, he remained undaunted. He would find that bird and set everything back to how it should have been. The leash of the military, unfortunately, was tighter than he'd thought. Pulled away from Ho-Oh and his brother at nearly every lead, he was put into battle after battle, hassled and tossed about. Stupid, insignificant jobs in his eyes were thrust at him, preventing him from his research. After a while of this, he eventually abandoned his station and went AWOL, not willing to let another lead for his brother slip away. But as he ran, news of strange pokemon were on the tongues of the people around him, and it wasn't long until he had to face them himself. Entire cities were overrun, death was lurking in every corner, every shadow. Alone, frightened and hope dwindling that his brother had managed to live through this, he fled the cities to find some refuge, somewhere he could sleep peacefully in the night. Envy's childhood was something cloaked in sadness and mystery, forever marking and scarring him for life. As a pup, a poor, helpless thing, his parents were not quite yet suited for parenthood. While his mother was devoted and caring, she also was inflicted with a case of insanity that waged war against her mate shortly after her pup's birth. Afraid of both his mate and pup and unwilling to fight to keep his own firstborn son, he disappeared one night, spiriting himself away from home and family. This broke Envy's mother. While the little zorua had had a normal name, she dismissed it entriely, renaming the pup Envy and called him that until the end of her days. She taught him that his father was selfish and a deserter, a traitor to their family and needed to be punished. Turning a cold, heartless shield to her own child, she sought for nothing but vengeance, her malice tainting and poisoning Envy's mind. He was treated as little more than a weapon, forgoing any motherly care for him. She was a brutal teacher, but she succeeded in making him stronger. Unfortunately, Envy was not one for forgiveness. Adapting his mother's dogma of revenge for himself, once he achieved enough power to do so, he turned and killed her himself, through with her harsh ways and words. Oh, he was going to fulfill her wish to kill his father, but not for her. He was going to kill that bastard for himself, and he didn't need a pushy bitch hovering over him. Discarding any sort of remorse he may have felt for killing her, he ran off in search for more power... and quickly found it in the form of a human trainer. The human, while not the greatest person herself, could see that this zorua was quite the bloodthirsty git. She made a pact with him, offering him power and knowledge of foes if he'd simply fight for her. He agreed, and was thrust into a blur of tournaments, gym battles and so forth. He grew quickly and evolved, immersing himself in his opponent's blood, hungrily seeking more and more power for himself. Every attack was meant for him, every blow a blow to him. After traveling with the human for quite some time, they began to speak often. The human treated Envy like an equal-- refusing to place him in his pokeball and allowing him to roam free. There was a mutual respect between them, and it was that respect that allowed Envy to reveal his rather shady past. The human listened and smiled, offering a more powerful move to dispose his father with. She taught him Focus Blast, and after her last tournament, released him into the wild to continue his search. It was months, years he searched, but found nothing but whispers, dust and one cold trail after another. There were rumors of a zoroark fitting Hohenheim's description, only with a ninetales and a little vulpix brat. Frustrated at the news and his failure to find anything other than heresay, he began killing passerby at will, murdering anyone that came across his path as he desperately tried and failed at finding his elusive father. As he traveled, he learned of the Epidemic and its minions, the dregs littering and reproducing over the land too quickly for comfort. But at this point, he was so powerful, the lumbering, drooling moronic corpses served no threat to him. He only hoped that Hohenheim was still alive enough to see Envy kill him. |
| Appearance | Extremely short for his species, Ed is an explosive pokemon in small wrapping. Besides his unusally short stature, though, he has two artificial limbs; his right forearm and his left hindquarter. He has had them for years, however, and moves fluently with them, the limbs now much as a part of him as his other natural ones. There is a strange insignia scarred onto his back from his teacher, supposedly amplifying his power. Envy is a shiny zoroark, with green "hair", purple slitted eyes and red accents. He has a strange insignia carved on his , a sign that he would never forget or forgive his father for abandoning him. |

Because of his experiences, his world has been a little skewed, untrusting of those that see themselves as his superior merely because of his age. He feels that they are his peers instead, and wishes for others to view the same. He has had many successes and failures, the latter of which tend to scar him indefinitely. But while those failures continue to haunt him, his successes bring him a sense of superiority, arrogance and pride. He's highly intelligent, skilled and powerful for his age-- and he knows it. Almost flaunting his accomplishments in some cases, he goes through the world thinking of himself an unsung celebrity. However, as much as Ed thinks himself an adult and capable of taking care of himself without the aid of others, he is still very much a child. Stubborn, petty, narrow-minded and brash, Ed generally takes personal matters too far and ends up in trouble. Unfortunately, he is easily overwhelmed in personal issues, taking everything to heart in the matter, clouding his judgement. But Ed's childish nature is not all brat. He is fiercely loyal to those lucky enough to gain his trust and love, protecting them even at the cost of his own personal risk. He is governed by a set dogma of ethics, choosing and striving toward the lighter side of that line. The thought of him being evil and doing evil deeds tears him apart-- his military career has effectively destroyed his faith in a higher power. Deserted, shunned and mocked by the government he was supposed to serve and protect, all higher forms of dictation are now inherently evil. Religion especially, after seeing a rather disturbing sight of a priest take full advantage of the people he was supposed to save. Ed, along with his distaste for much of the others around him, has a terrible vindictive side. Though rarely awakened, a grudge never leaves him until exact revenge is had. This side has more or less grown over the past few years, especially with his many bloody campaigns in the militia. Equivalent Exchange, after all... Arrogant| Envious| Wrathful| Coy| Under-handed| Vengeful| Vicious| Resolute| Determined| Ambitious| Bloodthirsty| Sadistic| Unhinged| Intelligent| Years of abuse and lack of love and care have turned Envy into little more than a cold, heartless monster. He seeks delight in all of the worst of pokekind, thriving on others' despair and pain. "Remorse" is a word to be laughed at, "Virtue" to be shunned and mocked. Those who are good and kind simply have not seen the ugliest that the world has to offer, and they remain naught but naive children, ignorant to the world's lessons.... Lessons Envy is all too happy to provide and teach. Those who do claim to have love and security are loathed and hated by Envy, his name personifying his very core personality. Having never known his parent's loving embrace, those who do need to suffer and be tortured. They need to know the pain that he'd known as normal. This jealousy of true normalcy and warmth, this envy and wrath toward those that have it warp Envy into a terrible, twisted being. Still childish enough to throw tantrums, his are rather dangerous and lethal, usually resulting in the death of whomever or whatever caused it in the first place. His slight unhinged mind is also to blame, as his terrible beginnings and ruthless upbringing have turned him into a dark, contorted thing. With Envy's good side, however -as he does have one- he plays a coy, aloof character. Distancing himself with any situation that doesn't directly involve him, he acts the snide, amused spectator. He enjoys watching others destroy themselves and others, relishing in chaos and anguish. Though he fancies himself a loner, he does seek out companionship, if only to completely fuck over said companions. Vain and arrogant, he is a confident, if not a very dangerous gamble of a companion. |
